Redmi 9 the much anticipated younger sibling to Redmi Note 9 devices finally launched and much of the device as anticipated came with specs that were forecasted prior to the launch barring a few surprises details of which we will share in this post.
Display
First things first – the Display. As anticipated the Redmi 9 comes up with a 6.5″ HD+ Display with a 20:9 aspect ration slightly higher than its successor Redmi 8 which came with 19:9, hence slight increase in the Display panel. However the overall build quality is decent and churns an attractive phone overall.
Processor
Now coming to the Helio G35 powering the processing capabilities and as it turns this also comes out correct as expected and was not a surprise and is sure an upgrade over the Snapdragon 439. Find below a comparative processing analysis of the two generations:
Camera
Now coming to the camera department which disappoints a little since it comes up with only a Dual camera with 13MP AI primary sensor and 2MP depth sensor. Besides the front camera is also a slight disappointment though not much was expected in this area and in place of 8MP as expected it comes with a 5MP front sensor.

RAM and Storage
This is yet another area where we withered slightly from the final specs of the device. But the incorporated or day bare minimum RAM benchmark has risen to 4GB which is a welcome change. We expected the base variant to start with 3GB+32GB but not only is there an increase in RAM but also the storage. Now the two available variants include 4GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB combination. Read more and we will share the exact price the two variants are available for.

Battery
Redmi 9 is powered by a massive 5000 Mah battery which would last enough for more than a day considering it’s not required to power a heavy device. Redmi projects this as an upgrade over the market standard offered and with its Enhanced Lifespan Battery (#ELB) enables 25% longer lifespan in comparison to other #5000mAh batteries. There with ELB technology the average battery life will increase from 2.3 years to 3.2 years.

Color Variants
The phones comes in three colors variants – Sporty orange, Sky Blue and Carbon Black and th overall phone offers a all new aura edge design for perfect grip and avoids any smudges and fingerprints.
Other features
Redmi 9 gets to be the lucky one to be equipped with MIUI12 and users will see a fresh layer of skin and enhancements.
While many of the leaked specs are available in the final cut of the device there are some useful additions which make the device worthy of being a successor to Redmi 8. These additions include TUV certified device with blue light and reading mode ability to ensure lesser strain on eyes since its much needed as we are spending a lot of time on our phones these days. Besides the Dark mode which turns entire UI to dark black and helps during night time. These aren’t unique features but do come handy.
Price and Availability
Finally coming to the price which was going to be a big differentiator and Redmi has done well in pricing the two variants of the device at a affordable range. While the 4GB+64GB starts with ₹8,999, the higher 4GB+128GB variant is priced ₹1000 higher at ₹9,999 keeping intact it’s below 10k price.
Redmi 9 will go on the sale next Monday, 31st Aug at 12 noon via Mi.com, Mi Homes, Mi Studio Stores and on Amazon besides across all retail stores soon.

But things don’t just end here. Manu Kumar Jain interestingly ends the launch with the famous tagline “Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost” leaving a trail as to what more is about to come soon. Our first impressions were that of the new Redmi Laptop or another Smart TV however as we had anticipated much earlier seeing the global trend and the past year’s devices that the new Redmi 9 variant was sure to come. But this surprise didn’t last for long when last evening Manu Jain opened the cards and shared the launch date of another sibling in the Redmi 9 family – the youngest and hopefully the last one Redmi 9a.
We will keep you posted about more news and updates as we get them. Till then you can wait for your chance to grab Redmi 9 on Amazon India starting Aug 31, 12 pm onwards. There is lots more on plate and we will unravel things as they come.
